In one of America's most affluent urban neighbourhoods, 4 East Elm will soon welcome buyers into its 35 luxury residences as exterior construction nears completion. The 25-storey tower by Convexity Properties is located in the Gold Coast Historic District of Chicago, an area with a rich mixture of highrise apartments, charming row houses, and massive mansions.
The boutique condominium offers floor-to-ceiling windows in its ten-foot-high suites. Ranging in size from 3,095 to 3,516 square feet, units occupy either half a floor or the full expanse and feature spacious terrace balconies.
Designed by local firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz, a sleek tower skinned in curtain wall glazing rises from a more traditional podium for Chicago that reflects the area's historical architecture. Atop the four-storey podium, a landscaped sundeck with an outdoor pool and spa provides residents with a chance to unwind. The interior is outfitted with a theatre room, fitness centre, living area, and conference space.
Forum contributor george1 paid a visit to the site recently and snapped photos of the construction progress. The reflective blue glass has almost fully sealed the building's skeleton, which has reached its apex. Stone installation on the base continues adjacent to the bare concrete and wood panelling that indicate the location of the construction hoist. Full occupancy is expected in 2016.
