Melbourne's evolving skyline is expecting a substantial change, with yet another redevelopment project set to reshape the streets of Victoria's capital city. Indeed, Australian developer BPM Corp. has recently launched Shadow Play, a new 153-metre residential skyscraper designed by local architecture firm Elenberg Fraser. Planned to rise at the corner of Clarendon Street and City Road, the $300 million (AUD) development is set to commence construction on the site of a former low-rise structure at the heart of the Southbank neighbourhood, a hotspot for the city's lasting apartment boom.

Characterized by a sculptural facade featuring rounded corners and horizontal undulations that is becoming increasingly typical in the city, the 46-level building will bring some welcome slenderness to the area. The tower's highly reflective, dark-tinted curtain wall covers its entire height. At ground level, the prominent intersection will undergo a similar transformation with a sleek, curved glass wall wrapping around the northern corner while a canopy will add further variation to the tower's exterior aspect.

The interior spaces will be dedicated to residential uses, with a mix of 494 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, ranging from 45.2 to 101 square metres in size. The 45th floor, originally designed to accommodate five separate units, will be transformed into a sprawling 712-square-metre penthouse suite as the entire floor plate was purchased by a single buyer. Interior finishes throughout the building have been designed by Hecker Guthrie, with each unit boasting a combination of stone, brass, and timber.

On level nine, a 600-square-metre amenity space will include a dining room with a kitchen and lounge area, a fully equipped fitness centre with a spa, steam room, and jacuzzi. The outdoor terrace and sunbathing area will be furnished with a barbecue, patio furniture, potted trees and other landscaping features. 150 parking spots and 167 bicycle storage stalls will be provided to the future residents of this highly walkable area. The tower is currently slated for completion in May 2018.
