At the heart of a metropolitan area of 5.5 million people, Frankfurt am Main is Germany's second most important urban area, and one of Europe's main financial centres. While the city's business district is characterized by highrise office buildings housing more than 150 banks, the district suffers from a lack of animation outside regular office hours. However, things are about to change thanks to Groß & Partner's plan to redevelop the former Deutsche Bank headquarters into a four-tower, mixed-use complex.

Located directly across the street from the Commerzbank Tower, currently the country's tallest at 259 metres above ground, the Deutsche Bank site spans an entire city block and is currently occupied by a series of midrise structures including heritage properties and one tower. The recently released redevelopment proposal designed by Dutch architecture firm UNStudio comprises a 228-metre hotel and office skyscraper, a 100-metre office building, as well as two residential towers standing at 170 and 130 metres high and set to become the tallest residential buildings in Frankfurt with approximately 600 new apartments.

At street level, a mid-rise podium will preserve the Junghofstraße and Grosse Gallusstrasse current built form, while including several listed heritage properties. It will also feature a series of amenities such as a daycare centre for children and several retail, food, and entertainment venues. At the centre of the Deutsche Bank Dreieck Complex, a new public square will bring a public space to the area and create additional connecting routes to some of the district's other pedestrian zones.

Construction on the project is expected to start sometime in the coming year, for a completion date around 2020. Meanwhile, more information, renderings and pictures are available in the project's Database file and respective Forum thread, linked below.
