Currently rising in Chelsea, progress on SR Capital's 19-storey, Foster + Partners-designed 551 West 21st Street has been moving along well. The new development, which overlooks New York's Hudson River and High Line, is nearly complete.
As seen back in December (above), the tower had all but topped off, with exterior cladding nearly all in place. Moving along to February, the tower had topped off, as seen in the image below taken from atop the nearby High Line, showcasing the tower's surrounding urban context.
By March, the tower was even further along, seen below in profile from a block away, while the following image, captured in mid-May, highlights the change in appearance once electrical services were activated on the site, setting the entire tower aglow against the Manhattan sky.
Once complete, the 19-storey residential tower will be home to 44 spacious residences, most of which will offer three or four bedrooms. The tower will be crowned with three penthouses, each with ample space for entertaining, including their own private terraces, while the uppermost penthouse will feature its own rooftop pool and lounge.
Taking cues from its immediate surroundings, the tower's design is meant to reflect the history of the neighbourhood, the oversized units an homage to an earlier time when space was not at the premium it is today. While the price will most certainly reflect today's market, those fortunate enough to call this new development home will surely enjoy their ample space, paired as it will be with stunning city vistas and river views.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
