The Streeterville neighbourhood in Chicago, which encompasses the popular Navy Pier, is about to welcome a new 21-storey building. Developed by ECD Company affiliate SMASHotels, a Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel will be occupying the small site at 224 East Ontario Street

The luxury branch of Marriott will operate 195 rooms. The building is also set to house a restaurant and lounge on the first floor, as well as meeting and event spaces, a fitness room, and a business centre. Marriott's Autograph Collection began in Savannah, Georgia in 2010 and has since expanded to cover over 100 properties around the world.

The hotel is designed by Koo and Associates, who have created an architectural plan featuring an embossed rainscreen facade of perforated metal panels. The pixelated grayscale cladding system is juxtaposed against graphic art on some of the window panes. Renderings for the project show a leafy terrace on the second floor just above the double-height lobby. An "agricultural green roof" is expected to crown the rectangular structure.

The currently unclad project has climbed a few storeys beside Les Nomades, a French restaurant housed within a three-storey brownstone. The structure is now being sandwiched between two hotels — the property to the west is home to the Fairfield Inn and Suites, which is also owned by SMASHotels.
