A striking blend of futurist and Mid-Century modern architecture, the "Googie" style can be found in abundance in Los Angeles and the surrounding Southern California area. The distinctive style developed in the 1940s and began to decline in the 1960s, drawing from the optimism of the era's technological advancements such as nuclear power and space flight. One of the style's most notable examples is the 1961-built Theme Building at Los Angeles' LAX Airport, seen in today's Viewfinder. Submitted to the SkyriseCities Flickr Pool by globetrekimages, this shot captures the iconic Pereira & Luckman Architects / Paul Williams and Welton Becket-designed structure.
