Chicagoans no longer have to vocalize the mouthful of a placeholder name for the upcoming home of DePaul University's basketball rosters, as the McCormick Place Events Center will now be known as Wintrust Arena. Details of the 15-year naming deal were made public, as temporary signage and branding appeared on the facade of the building, which construction crews are busy assembling for a scheduled fall 2017 delivery date.

DePaul would be the exclusive beneficiary of an estimated $22 million in sponsorship revenue after agreeing to share the $164 million cost of the project with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. At the official announcement of the agreement last week, Wintrust officials indicated that they would also boost their on-campus presence and their business relationship with the university.

The 10,387-seat arena, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, features a grooved roof and pavilions reminiscent of quintessential Modernist architecture. A Gensler-designed Marriott Marquis Hotel forms an integral role within the McCormick Place Entertainment District, a mixed-use complex that builds upon the success of the eponymous convention centre.
