Over the last few years, Midtown Houston has carved out a niche for itself as a hot spot among young urban professionals. Located just south of the core and served by a streetcar line along Main Street, the walkable neighbourhood is today home to some of the city's most popular bars, restaurants, and galleries. Rising in the heart of the neighbourhood, 3300 Main is a 30-storey, 328-unit residential tower with ground floor retail, that is set to become the latest addition to the rapidly rising corner of downtown Houston

Designed by RTKL for the PM Realty Group, 3300 Main will replace a 1960s-era City-owned office block at the corner of Main and Travis. The residential development is situated directly along the MERTORail Red Line, with direct service to downtown.

To be built adjacent to an attached eight-storey parking garage with space for 521 cars, the residential tower will take up but a portion of the total lot size, with a planned ground-level retail strip to front both structures, thus adding to the urban vibrancy along Main Street. Primed for takeover by a restaurant or cafe, the well-situated 14,000-square-foot retail strip will likely be a boon to the area, to be frequented by residents of both the tower and the neighbourhood generally.

Soon to become a neighbour to the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH), a performing arts space in the community, 3300 Main will place residents within the heart of the action in an area that has become synonymous with the city's small but growing arts scene in recent years. Likely to be a welcome addition to the area, 3300 Main will inject a healthy mix of urban character into the neighbourhood, and become part of the ongoing transformation of Midtown Houston.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
