At 310 metres, the 53-storey Foster + Partners-designed supertall Varso Tower is set to become Poland's tallest structure, edging out the 1955-built 237-metre Palace of Culture and Science for the honour. The new development will occupy a longstanding brownfield site at the centre of Warsaw, on a plot adjacent to the Central Train Station. Set for completion in 2020, Varso Tower will bring 140,000 square metres (1,500,000 square feet) of modern office space to the core. Warsaw has become a European tech hub in recent years, having attracted Google and other high-profile tech giants.
Built by Slovakian developer HB Reavis, Varso Tower will dramatically redefine the Warsaw skyline. The new tower will soar above the adjacent Palace of Culture and Science, a Stalin-Era structure that has long been a symbol of the city. Featuring a thoroughly modern glass exterior that will cascade down to street level, the base of the tower will interface with two much smaller related structures designed by Warsaw-based Hermanowicz Rewski Architects, which will in turn become the face of the new development at ground level.
High up in the sky, the two-level restaurant and lounge spread across the 46th and 47th floors will provide patrons with breathtaking panoramic views of the city down below. The proposed space is set to become one of central Warsaw's premier dining experiences. The restaurant will be joined at ground level with a variety of cafes and shops, which will provide Varso Tower with a full range of dining and shopping options.
Higher still, the rooftop observation deck will soon become one of the tallest of its kind in Europe. The 230-metre public space will rival that of the nearby Palace of Culture and Science. While tenants have yet to be announced, it is more than likely that the Varso Tower will become home to members of the emerging tech sector that is continuing to attract top names in the industry.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
