As founding member Alan Goldstein retires from the architectural practice Goldstein Hill & West, the New York-based firm has launched a new website, donning a 'Hill West' nameplate. And just as the company undergoes a big transition, more details have emerged about one of their largest projects. Under the management of developer United Construction & Development Group, Court Square City View Tower is set to become the tallest building in the Queens neighbourhood of Long Island City.
Permits were originally submitted in 2016 for a 79-storey, 294-metre tower. The project has been reduced in height to 66 storeys in the time since, with the Federal Aviation Administration giving permissions for a 229-metre rise on the site at 23-15 44th Drive. The revised scheme will hold 802 condominium units that offer 360 degree views of Manhattan's famous skyline.
To be enveloped in high-quality curtain wall glazing, the building's re-entrant corners provide a place for a rise of balconies. The exterior will essentially have two faces: the broader elevations will be clad in a neutral blue while the sheathing on the edges employs a clear green look. Metal fins on the crown bring the tower to an ornamental conclusion, while the same treatment at the base provides the more pragmatic function of obscuring the parking levels from public view.
Residents will enjoy direct access to the Court Square subway station along with the standard suite of amenities. A double-height amenity space will come equipped with a lounge and overlook a swimming pool on the third floor. Other floors will host a fitness centre, replete with a yoga room and sauna. The site has been cleared and is awaiting heavy machinery to begin construction, which is anticipated this year.
