Another piece of developer Knight Dragon's massive Greenwich Peninsula development in London has been revealed, showing a curvilinear set of towers designed by famous architect Santiago Calatrava. The £1 billion project on the edge of the River Thames, within earshot of O2 Arena, will include a new Tube station, performance venue, theatre, and retail anchoring three towers with hotels, offices, and apartments. Named Peninsula Place, the project is especially significant for Calatrava, representing his first major development in the United Kingdom.

Similar in design to Calgary's Peace Bridge, another Calatrava work, a tubular span will link the development to the water's edge. A series of cables will be attached to a large spire, which will itself act as a wayfinding device within the neighbourhood. Meanwhile, residents, workers, and visitors taking the Tube will be welcomed to the community by a 24-metre-high glass gallery containing a lush winter garden.

Touted as the largest single regeneration project in London's history, Peninsula Place is only a sliver of a much larger £8.4 billion development, which will ultimately include 15,720 homes, 12,000 jobs, 2,000 school spots for children, and a new film studio across 150 acres. The Greenwich Peninsula scheme is envisioned by Allies and Morrison, who will also design two residential volumes for the project. The award-winning practice Skidmore, Owings & Merrill has already unveiled plans for a group of sculpted towers hugging the waterfront.
