Just a few short days after announcing plans to revitalize Downtown Montreal's Place Ville Marie, Ivanhoé Cambridge has officially marked completion of the 27-storey Maison Manuvie at 900 de Maisonneuve West in Canada's second-largest city. Co-developed with the real estate arm of Manulife Financial Corporation, which will use the state-of-the-art office complex as its Quebec headquarters, Maison Manuvie was inaugurated Monday.
"Accelerating our growth in Quebec is an important component of Manulife's long-term Canadian strategy," said Michael Doughty, President & CEO of Manulife Canada. "While Manulife has held a strong presence in Quebec for 130 years, today, we begin a new chapter of our growth story. At the centre of this is Maison Manuvie, bringing together our employees with a common focus, our customer. With the customer at the centre of everything we do, we will become the reference point for health, wealth and innovation here in Quebec."
Manulife now occupies over half the office space in the tower, which is built to LEED CS Gold standards and features a sleek glass design by Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes. The building's eighth floor is characterized by several meeting rooms and a unique lounging space with an outdoor terrace.
An interactive art installation titled Colorimeter, imagined by Mexican artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, sees the feature wall of the building's grand hall transformed into a canvas with over 500 coloured panels that form a vertical grid. Capable of producing an ever-changing display of colours, the panels will be activated by the hues captured by a camera located in the grand hall. The camera, equipped with a colour-tracking system, scans and extracts saturated colours around the room to highlight on the wall.
Despite opening this week, Maison Manuvie has already been the subject of worldwide recognition — the complex recently won the Americas Property Award for Office Development, Canada at the International Property Awards.
