A new residential development in the heart of Chicago's South Loop neighbourhood is gearing up to welcome renters in the new year. Situated at 1140 South Wabash in an area of the city bursting with new development, Eleven40 will contain 320 apartments across its 26-storey frame, with ground-level retail animating an already active streetscape.

Developed in a joint venture by CA Residential and Keith Giles, the Solomon Cordwell Buenz-designed highrise offers 160 studios, 80 one-bedroom units and 80 two-bedroom layouts. Floor plans range in size from a snug 389 square feet to a more roomy 1,027 square feet. Floor-to-ceiling windows, quartz kitchen countertops and stainless steel appliances come standard throughout the building.

The building will also boast an expansive 22,000-square-foot amenities package. One such feature — the rooftop deck — is prominently pictured in the development's marketing materials. They show an elongated outdoor pool mingling with a landscaped area and plenty of seating spots. Additional amenities on the fifth floor include a fitness centre and yoga studio, a business centre, an entertainment suite, media and gaming rooms, and an outdoor dog run.

Recent photos show the state of progress so far, as crews ready the building for occupancy in 2018. Glazing on the tower is mostly complete, while the bracing for the podium cladding is being erected. The angular canopy that shelters the rooftop amenity space has also been installed, with its finishing now underway.
