The faceted Jewel Towers are rising in unison on the sandy shores of Gold Coast, Australia, where two of China's largest developers are building an instant landmark. Dalian Wanda Group and the Ridong Group are behind the $1 billion development that pairs 512 luxury residences with a five-star hotel — all across a three-tower crystalline complex.

The 48-, 41- and 35-storey buildings will significantly alter an already-impressive skyline shaped by highrise condominium and hotel towers. Located at Old Burleigh Road in Broadbeach, the towering trio are tied together by a three-level podium, supporting winding pools, that provides a connection between the development and the water. The tallest tower will host the 171-suite Wanda Vista Hotel, while the shorter pair of towers accommodate the bulk of the one-, two- and three-bedroom residences.

DBI Design and Oppenheim Architecture + Design were the chosen winners of an international design competition for the prominent project. The sculptural architecture has roots in a geological discovery dating back thousands of years — smoky quartz crystals found on the western side of Mount Warning were scanned and scaled up to produce the angular form of the towers.

The design vision is coming to fruition as the towers begin making a huge impact on the Surfers Paradise skyline. Recent images highlight the geometric rhythm of the complex, which is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
