A new mixed-use precinct will gift another city skyline to Perth near the meeting of the Swan and Canning Rivers. The Woods Bagot-designed scheme imagines a 21st century town centre inspired by the Australian city's dynamic waterways. It remakes a 1.8-hectare site between the cities of Perth and Fremantle near the proposed Canning Bridge transport hub.

Woods Bagot's masterplanned Applecross Central project offers six distinct zones containing over 20,000 square metres of retail, 815 residences, 10,000 square metres of commercial office space, a 170-room hotel, 190 aged care units, and a school standing within multiple public spaces. The triangular site would also be activated by a community event plaza with space set aside for a library, childcare facilities and multipurpose areas. The disparate programs would be connected by covered and landscaped laneways and an elevated pedestrian link.

The development vision proposes over 160,000 square metres across multiple towers of varying heights. Underneath the retail precinct would lie a "super basement" to accommodate drivers, while the surface emphasizes non-motorized transportation, with a heightened focus on cycle paths and walkability.

"From the tranquillity of the Gardens which creates a community gathering space, to the Landing with its activated laneways and terraces that provides an outdoor garden retail experience, the Masterplan also boasts a variety of residential and lifestyle options to suit people of all age groups including the Highlands, the Anchorage and the Hotel," said Woods Bagot Senior Associate and lead designer Andrew Tang-Smith.
