Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture has unveiled their design for the 47-storey Una Residences in Miami's South Brickell neighbourhood. To be developed by OKO Group, the sculptural design of the tower speaks to the fluidity of the ocean, and large terraces wrapping around the building provide residents with plenty of room for views.

"We saw the opportunity to bring the Miami attitude to the building, it's sophisticated and comfortable," said AS+GG Design Partner, Gordon Gill. "It stands in contrapposto, where it appears that one side of the building is holding its full weight and the other side is relaxing, looking at you."

The south end of the tower is marked by a sweeping cantilever that overlooks the podium amenity spaces. The location of the amenities ensures a liberated ground plane with public access to the waterfront, allowing an inviting "opening sequence" where the building landscaping flows into the park.

"Una is shaped so that every residence will enjoy great views of the bay and ocean," said AS+GG Design Partner, Adrian Smith. "Every unit also has large living-room-like balconies that enhance the enjoyment of the indoor-outdoor lifestyle that so important to Miami living."

The 138 two- to five-bedroom residences are also being designed by the firm, who have envisioned an interior aesthetic inspired by the Riva yacht, a highly crafted wooden sport made in Italy. The palette is composed of warm natural materials like leather, wood and stone that contrast with cooler chrome and stainless steel tones.

"Like a Riva yacht, the interior design is warm with beautiful detailing," says Smith. "Like the building itself, the interior design responds to the program of luxury living, fun lifestyle, casual environment, and relaxing atmosphere. We also wanted the interior spaces to have a strong relationship to the exterior because we think of the architecture and the interiors as one expression."

Every residence will have its own private elevator entry, ten-foot-eight ceiling heights, and ten-foot-deep terraces. And each resident will have access to a surfeit of recreational experiences, from use of a private marina and three pools, to a fitness centre, cinema and outdoor lounge.
