Three months after a shortened design was released for the proposed skyscraper on the Winthrop Square Garage site in Downtown Boston, another suite of renderings showing a revised scheme has been unearthed. The new images come from a submission to the Boston Civic Design Commission, and they show a bifurcated building that developer Millennium Partners hopes to woo officials with.
The first design would have seen the building become the second tallest in the city at 236 metres. In response to community and aviation concerns, the structure was chopped to 210 metres. With that height reduction came a new design, which appears to have been set aside as another round of images come forward.
The revised scheme from Handel Architects imagines two buildings arranged in a T shape, with the tallest tower employing a sawtooth envelope. The building would put office space on the lower floors, which boast larger floor plates, and residential space on the upper component, which has less usable space due to a midair building setback.
Millennium is aiming to start construction in 2018, though the development still needs to obtain approvals. Additional images and information can be found in the Database file linked below.
