Currently nearing completion at 676 Lasalle Street in the heart of Chicago's rapidly transforming River North district, the aptly named FLATS River North, designed by Booth Hansen for CEDARst Companies has quickly become a neighbourhood fixture.

Located on the corner of Lasalle and Huron Street, on the site of a former parking lot, the structure is comprised of two buildings, the larger of the two in black (above left), being in essence a seven-storey lateral addition of a nondescript vintage building (above right) that has long occupied the rear of the property.

Viewed again above, the relationship between the new (right) and old (left) structures can be easily understood, the glassy, boxy, modern addition itself a throwback to an earlier era in construction harkening to the 1960s.

The most recent addition to CEDARst Companies' FLATS Chicago brand, the 149-unit residential development will include underground parking for just 20 cars, augmented by space for up to 68 bicycles.

Once complete, FLATS River North will join a collection of recent developments in the quickly urbanizing area just north of The Loop.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
