Construction of Melo Group's Aria on the Bay has completed in Miami, with more than 90 percent of its 648 units sold and under hard contract. The 53-storey luxury condominium tower at 1770 North Bayshore Drive is the work of Argentinian-American Jose Luis Melo and his two sons, who have together now delivered 14 residential towers over the last 15 years, bringing over 5,000 units to Greater Downtown Miami.

"When we broke ground on Aria on the Bay three years ago, we envisioned a tower that not only offered first-rate amenities in an ideal location but one whose design would convey elegance and sophistication," said Carlos Melo, principal of Melo Group. "We are confident that Aria will take its place among Miami's most iconic landmarks."

Arquitectonica helmed the design of the building in concert with a landscaping scheme devised by ArquitectonicaGEO. Aria on the Bay's name is inspired by the opera, particularly the rich cultural and arts institutions surrounding the residential complex. The scalloped facade draws influence from the shapes of the wave crests in Biscayne Bay and the curving balconies of the world's opera houses.

"Two blocks north of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Aria on the Bay's semi-circular balconies make reference to those inside the classic opera houses," said Architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia, founding principal of Arquitectonica. "They playfully stagger creating a series of cylinders in performance. The arrangement could also be interpreted as a musical score, or a series of curves dancing to a tune."

The top three levels of the building are home to a sold-out collection of triplex penthouses, measuring between 2,600 and 4,800 square feet, and capturing prices from $1.8 million to over $6 million. Amenities include a 14th floor resort deck featuring sunrise- and sunset-facing swimming pools, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, indoor/outdoor bar, screening room, library and business centre. The base will include 10,000 square feet of available commercial space, including office, retail and restaurant units.
