Coming soon to Halifax's downtown waterfront, Armour Group's $200-million Queen's Marque is set to completely transform the Maritime capital's skyline. Comprised of three interconnected, mixed-use, residential and office space structures arranged in a "C" configuration, the project has been designed via a partnership between MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects and the Halifax-based Fowler Baud & Mitchell Architecture

At 450,000 square feet, the project will be massive, the property in its entirety to be spread across two hectares of prime waterfront real estate. Featuring space enough for 135 residential units alongside 120,000 square feet of office space, the LEED Platinum structure will represent a high-quality addition to the core.

Moving in for a closer look, the addition of 75,000 square feet of outdoor public space, including the large granite steps that will gently ease into the Atlantic Ocean, can be appreciated for the popular summertime destination this will more than likely become upon completion. Evocative of the historic Queen's Landing that once served Halifax Harbour, the steps will form the centrepiece to Queen's Marque.

Around to the rear of the structure, Queen's Marque will meet the downtown street grid with a mixture of sandstone and metallic cladding. In fact, roughly 900 tonnes of Nova Scotia sandstone will be included in the structure, paying tribute to Halifax's built heritage and one of the city's most ubiquitous historic materials

Viewed again from the waterfront, the as of yet unnamed art installation known for now as the "Harbour Light," will include an inner staircase and lookout. A transformative project by any measure for Halifax's downtown waterfront, Queen's Marque will become a beacon of modern architecture front and centre upon the face of one of Eastern Canada's most historic cities

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
