Continuing a five-building streak across Hamilton's rapidly gentrifying downtown core, Vancor Group's 20-22 George Street is but the latest in a slew of projects to rise within the last few years. Set to become the largest to date, the 32-storey, 230-unit residential complex will soon become a transformative new pice of the downtown streetscape.

Rising high above a seven-storey podium dedicated primarily to parking, albeit with the ground floor reserved for retail, 20-22 George Street replaces a longstanding surface lot, the abundance of which has begun to drop across the core as the city is in the midst of an urban renaissance.

Nestled atop the podium's rooftop, a generous outdoor terrace and amenity space will include a large green roof in addition to a patio lounge area. Inside, residents will be able to make use of a multi-purpose room, dining room, and fitness centre.

While the front of the development will sport a handsome mix of dark glass and precast textured cladding, the rear of the structure has been left as a more or less blank, backing as it does, onto a small parking lot and loading zone. This small oversight aside, 20-22 George Street will be a welcome addition to Hamilton's downtown, adding some much needed housing stock to the core.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
