Part of Hamilton's ongoing downtown redevelopment and subsequent gentrification, a proposal by PineMount Holdings for an 8-storey mid-rise apartment block slated to replace a ScotiaBank in the city's north end Harbour district, could very well become the latest in a long line of developments to go up in the core. Known simply as 600 James Street North, the recent proposal would replace a longstanding ScotiaBank, thereby bringing up to 60 units to the rapidly changing neighbourhood.

Located just a stone's throw away from the Hamilton Harbour, Waterfront, and Bayview Park, 600 James Street North would place residents within easy walking distance to several of downtown Hamilton's most popular destinations. Close as well to the recently opened West Harbour GO Station, the project would also be a popular choice for those looking to commute/travel to Toronto.

Designed by RAW Design, 600 James Street North will feature a mix of brick and glazing on its exterior, the bottom of the apartment block to be reserved for ground-floor retail, thus bringing a much-needed refresh to the NE corner of James Street North and Burlington Street East.

Viewed in the aerial site view above, the site is ideally located for this type of development, the immediate area already home to a handful of apartment blocks, and several vacant lots in need of an update.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
