Following its topping off back in February, progress at the site of 15 Hudson Yards has been significant, the rocketesque near-supertall condo tower now almost completely clad. Designed jointly by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Rockwell Group, and Ismael Leyva Architects, 15 Hudson Yards has become a standout structure amid a neighbourhood of standouts.
Covered in a smooth, blue, glass curtain wall, and sculpted towards the top of the tower to give the effect to two conjoined silos, 15 Hudson Yards is highly evocative of a space launch, the tower taking the place of a vertical shuttle ready for countdown.
Visible to the far right, 15 Hudson Yards joins a host of recent and under construction high-rises, some more eccentric than others. The 917-foot tower will soon be home to 285 apartments, including four penthouses, and 100 affordable units. Ranging in price from $4-32 million, 15 Hudson Yards appears to be on-trend for Manhattan's notoriously expensive real estate market.
Abutting onto The Shed (set to become a cultural space), 15 Hudson Yards will contain an impressive host of amenities, including a 75-foot swimming pool, theatre room, and co-working space. Set for completion by March 2019, 15 Hudson Yards will be a welcome addition to the area, the Hudson Yards as a whole having quickly become a transformative part of Manhattan's ongoing redevelopment.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
