Nearly two years since we last checked in at the site of Robert A.M. Stern's Art Deco inspired 220 Central Park South, and progress has moved on significantly, the 66-storey tower now topped off and almost completely clad. Standing tall at 290 metres, 220 Central Park South represents the tallest of its NYC siblings, which include 30 Park Place, 520 Park Avenue, and No. 20 East End Avenue.
Developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the limestone-clad luxury tower will soon be home to just 118 residences, spread across the near-supertall tower's 66 floors. Thus providing ample living quarters for its residents, all units above the 40th floor will come in the form of generously sized quadplexes - brownstones in the sky for those fortunate enough to obtain one.
Accompanying the tower, a 14-storey counterpart block, to be known as "The Villas," will face directly onto Central Park. Owners will be privy to a host of amenities, including a fitness centre, juice bar, swimming pool, golf simulator, library, meeting room, children's play room, terrace, and squash/basketball courts.
Spanning the 50th-53rd floor, the 23,000 square-foot penthouse suite will feature 16 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, and five balconies, and was originally listed at a reasonable $250 million. Once complete, 220 Central Park South will be one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the city, the luxury tower trend fast becoming a staple among new developments in New York.
