Following the clearance of the future Albion at Oak Park site earlier this spring, the HPA-designed, 19-storey residential tower has begun construction, the development commanding a large presence at 1000 Lake Street in Chicago's Oak Park. Slated for completion by late 2019, the mixed-use structure will deliver 265 units and up to 400 new residents to the rapidly transforming commercial district of Oak Park Village, located west of the core.

Fronting onto the bustling Lake Street corridor, Albion at Oak Park will eventually be home to a 6,500 square foot retail component. This inclusion will go a long way to restoring whatever retail was lost in the demolition of the aforementioned low-rise commercial structure that previously occupied the site.

Albion at Oak Park is composed of a series of stacked rectilinear blocks, stepped back towards the rear of the tower facing onto Austin Gardens. In fact, early on in the process, the designs for the project were altered to allow for more light to grace the public green space.

Speaking of green space, the stacked forms will allow the placement of multiple outdoor gardens and terraces, bringing a sustainable element to the project. Once complete, Albion at Oak Park will be a popular destination for buyers, the availability of local amenities, and immediate proximity to the Oak Park CTA station a plus for those looking for a balance or urban and suburban living.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
