Oak Park Village's latest high-rise has been making steady progress since our last update, the 19-storey Albion at Oak Park now standing half a dozen storeys above grade. Located at 1000 Lake Street on the western periphery Chicago's inner suburbs, the mixed-use development will soon be home to 265 residential units placed atop 6,500 square feet of ground floor retail.

Albion at Oak Park will place roughly 400 new residents at the heart of Oak Park Village, an historic inner suburb of Chicago centered around a cluster of boutiques, restaurants, and bars along Lake Street. The high-rise will back onto Austin Gardens, the inclusion of a sympathetic setback at the rear of the structure, to ease any previous concerns over sunlight.

For its part, the multiple stacked volumes of the tower will allow for the placement of several horizontal rows of vegetation, thanks to the provision of several outdoor terraces. Covering the top of the retail podium, as well as the top of each block, including the roof, the gardens will help keep the structure and its surroundings suitably green.

For transit users and daily commuters, the immediate availability of the Oak Park CTA subway station will be a large draw, as will the exceptional walkability of the neighbourhood. Once complete, Albion at Oak Park will be a welcome addition to the Village, bringing urban density without disrupting the area's unique appeal.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
