Long overlooked in a city renowned for its historic landmarks, including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, the 180-year-old Franklin Square Fountain in Philadelphia's Old City has been an enduring part of the city's urban fabric since 1838. Located at the heart of Franklin Square, one of the colonial-era city's original five town squares, the fountain is well-loved, yet in need of some TLC, its modern makeover to bring the historic landmark into the 21st century.

Historic Philadelphia unveiled their plans earlier this month, the $2 million update to feature new waterworks and a dynamic LED lighting system which as viewed above, will bring an exciting new visual element to the fountain. Described by Historic Philadelphia as a "fountain show," the LED display will change in tandem with the water jets, thereby creating the effect of the water and light dancing in unison.

Last updated in 2006, the latest changes to the Franklin Square Fountain will undoubtedly be its most dramatic. The addition of several new varieties of water jet, from geysers to variojets, will bring a new sense of wonder to one of the city's oldest landmarks.
