Six weeks since our last update, and progress at the Hoxton Hotel in Chicago's Fulton Market has been moving along steadily. The 12-storey, GREC Architects-designed, multi-volume structure has now nearly reached completion, both the upper and lower portions now all but finished.

Located in the up and coming Fulton Market neighbourhood, close to transit, shopping, and multiple dining and drinking options, the Hoxton Hotel will more than likely become a top destination for visitors looking to experience all the city has to offer beyond the usual tourist destinations. Set within a solidly post-industrial locale, and evocative of Chicago's meatpacking past, the Hoxton Hotel has been designed to blend into its surroundings.

For while the black, 175-room hotel tower portion remains somewhat out of place, it is ingratiated adequately well into the neighbourhood via the inclusion of the sturdy, brick-clad podium that meets the street at ground level. Detailed with fine brickwork, and outfitted with factory-type windows, the podium will be seamlessly woven into the streetscape.

The inclusion of two floors of office space, sandwiched between the podium and the tower, will also be a boon to the neighbourhood, bringing along the with planned ground floor retail, a steady flow of daytime traffic to the site. A Boka-brand restaurant and lounge will also grace the hotel, thus furthering Fulton Market's reputation as a foodie destination.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
