The Mayor of the Montreal borough of Verdun was on hand to join in the festivities as Développements Symphonia officially kicked off construction of a new residential tower comprised of "one-of-a-kind superimposed cubes". The $100 million Symphonia Pop development at the southern edge of Nuns' Island takes the form of a 32-storey building, visually announcing an area soon to be revitalized by enhanced transportation via the New Champlain Bridge and an REM light-rail station.

Conceptualized as a series of stacked cubes or "pops", the Provencher_Roy-designed project will overlook the St. Lawrence River with 207 units ranging in size from 600 to 3,000 square feet. Over 65 percent of the condos have been accounted for and first occupancy is scheduled to take place by 2021.

"The project is a beacon for the renewal of the southern tip of Nuns' Island," said Kevin Robinson, General Manager of Développements Symphonia. "The tower will become an emblem for the borough and even for the city of Montréal. With its bold design and avant-garde look, Symphonia POP truly marks a turning point in the area's modernization."

The project's amenities package will include indoor and outdoor pools and jacuzzis, a sauna and steam bath, full meeting room with attached kitchen, a 24/7 gymnasium, and a games room.
