Fourteen months since we last checked in at the site of the Rafael Viñoly-designed NEMA Grant Park - also known as NEMA Chicago - and progress has moved along considerably. The 270-metre, 76-storey tower has now all but topped off, its multi-tier configuration now clearly visible against the Chicago skyline.

Located at the corner of Indiana and Roosevelt, along the southwestern edge of Grant Park, the 792-unit residential high-rise will soon be home to upwards of 1,000 people. NEMA Grant Park by Crescent Heights will sit atop a 16-storey podium base, the majority of which will be devoted to housing parking for 622 cars, while the base of the tower will contain a 12,000 square foot retail space.

Viewed above and below, glazing work has been progressing more or less in step with the tower's rise. The completed structure will feature a smooth glass curtain wall, arranged in a rectilinear grid pattern outlining the floor plates.

Developed as a rental tower, NEMA Grant Park will nevertheless be equipped with an impressive array of amenities, including a fitness centre and sprawling, 14,670 square-foot rooftop pool deck. Slated for completion by 2019, NEMA Grant Park will be a fine addition to the core, the project to take the position of South Loop's tallest tower.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
