An eight-acre, three-building development is bridging the gap between Downtown Dallas and the Deep Ellum entertainment district. Entering its final stages of construction, The Epic mixed-use development at Elm Street and Good-Latimer Expressway includes a 26-storey residential tower, 16-storey office tower, seven-storey hotel, and a host of retail space scattered throughout.
Perkins+Will has designed the multi-faceted project, which is being built on property owned by Westdale Real Estate Investment and Management. The largely-complete office tower at 2555 Pacific boasts 251,000 square feet of space, private terraces, outdoor areas, a fitness centre, and a seventh floor amenities deck serving up views of the Dallas skyline.
The highrise residential tower, coined The Hamilton, captures the architectural character of the area by inserting exposed brick and steel elements into the facade. The 310-unit apartment building is still well under construction, and upon completion, will offer residents a surfeit of amenities from a community workshop with catering kitchen and 3D printer to a resort-style pool deck with cabanas and grilling stations.
Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants will operate The Pittman Hotel's 164 rooms and associated luxury amenity rooms. The 1916-built Knights of Pythias Temple, the first commercial building in Dallas constructed by and for African-American professionals, was designed by William Sidney Pittman, son-in-law of Booker T. Washington. The historical building has undergone restoration of its red brick, and its signature grand ballroom on the fourth floor will also return to its former glory.
