Heatherwick Studio's first residential project in Asia is nearing completion in the historic Orchard Road Neighbourhood of Singapore. The verdant 105-metre-tall skyscraper, commissioned by Hong Kong-based Swire Properties, combines nature and urban apartment living.

Inspired by Singapore's 'city in a garden' environment, Eden contains 20 apartments occupying a full floor each. Each unit offers over 3,000 square feet in space and four bedrooms, with balconies draped in hand-picked tropical greenery. This 'private garden in the sky' affords a platform for privacy and unobstructed 270-degree views.

"We wanted to create something distinct for Singapore to contrast a skyline filled with angular steel and glass towers," said Thomas Heatherwick, Founder of Heatherwick Studio. "Our design recreates the verdant garden access once ubiquitous in the city's homes, extending the landscape of Singapore from ground level through the building via hanging gardens. This is truly a home in a garden, where residents can enjoy an unparalleled lifestyle."

Eschewing the conventional boxy floor plates of modern towers, Eden instead adopts a unique concrete core. Coupled with an outer concrete skin imprinted with a topographical map of Singapore's terrain, the material aids in the property's natural cooling and environmental performance by restricting the amount of warm air entering the building.

Eden is scheduled to begin occupancy in the fourth quarter of 2019.
