The Trudeau Government has made good on a 2018 pledge to help fund the planned eastward extension of the Montreal Metro's Blue Line. With today's announcement, the Federal Government has now officially promised to deliver $1.3 billion in funds to the project, thereby representing roughly 1/3 of its estimated $4.5 billion cost.

The $4.5 billion, five-stop extension project will see the eastern arm of the Blue Line pushed outwards from its current terminus at Saint-Michel all the way to Anjou. Pictured above, the Blue Line extension may be paired with a future Orange Line extension, the latter to see the closing of the "loop" with a connection made between Côte-Vertu and Montmorency.

With municipal elections just six weeks away, the funding pledge from the Federal Government is sure to solidify urban support for Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, as this will be the city's first major, multi-line expansion project in over 25 years. Work will begin upon the Blue Line extension first, with an expected completion date of 2026.
