A stilted office building has been completed at the Adidas World of Sports campus in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Designed by Behnisch Architekten, the 52,000-square-metre Adidas World of Sports Arena serves as the gateway for the campus.

The abstract volume houses three hovering floors of modern and flexible work spaces to accommodate nearly 2,000 employees. The design rests atop a sculpted hill that marks the building's foyer, where workers are guided into a soaring atrium filled with natural light.

The centre of the building features a dramatic floating staircase that provides access to all floors and views of the atrium itself from multiple angles. A "main street" connects the three levels vertically and horizontally, enabling a mid-air space the architects liken to a "lively marketplace." This main street is linked with six kitchen hubs on each floor that represent six "key cities," which are differentiated by materials, colours, and furnishings.

The exterior of the building is equipped with a sun control and shading system to maximize light penetration and minimize heat gain. The steel-and-concrete construction is assisted by a network of oblique steel and concrete supports.
