A sleek new $730 million AUD hotel and serviced apartment project under construction in Sydney features organic curves and deep blue glass. The Ribbon by Grocon and designed by Hassell has erupted between two elevated roadways in Sydney's Darling Harbour, creating an undulating silhouette on the growing skyline.

Serving as the gateway to the western side of the city's central business district, the 24-storey mixed-use project will primarily host a 593-room W Hotel and a selection of serviced apartments. It will also provide a new home for the IMAX theatre previously occupying the site, plus several retail tenancies on the lower floors.

The Ribbon will enhance the waterfront experience by further activating the public realm with retail and restaurants, while offering improved sightlines over the harbour and new pedestrian links across Cockle Bay.

The project will also include a 172-space parking garage split over four levels. An innovative car stacking system allows additional cars to be accommodated within the small footprint.

Recent construction photos from our Forum show the project's curving shell taking shape with the help of three tower cranes. Glazing installation has largely kept pace with vertical construction, giving passersby a vivid idea of how the finished product will appear.
