Italian design studio Mario Cucinella Architects has released renderings of a mixed-use project in Albania's capital city inspired by the topography of the nearby Mount Dajti. The 24-storey Ekspozita Building, scheduled to begin construction later this year in Tirana, advertises a number of unique architectural embellishments.

A mix of commercial, residential and public amenity spaces will fill the 93-metre-tall volume, which boasts an irregular polygonal footprint. Commercial units will be located on the bottom floors of the structure, while residential units occupy the upper levels as the massing diminishes in length.

A large void in the centre of the building informs a series of inward-facing terraces draped in vegetation, serving as privacy and solar shading devices to minimize heat gain. This space also acts as a public gesture, oriented towards the tree-lined Blv Gergi Fishta, a major thoroughfare in the city.

If all goes according to plan, the development will be ready for occupancy in 2023.
