We haven't visited the construction site of the highly-anticipated One Chicago since the summer, when shoring for the two-tower development was underway. Crews haven't wasted any time on the former parking lot of Holy Name Cathedral, completing excavation and now shifting focus to the sprawling podium of the complex.

The block-long project by JDL Development and Wanxiang American Real Estate will produce towers of 76 and 49 storeys—falling just short of supertall status—designed by Goettsch Partners and Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture. Between the two buildings, the development will contain over 800 residences, a 120-foot-long dog park, a health club and a Whole Foods in the podium.

The tallest building will also contain 77 high-tech condo units on its upper floors, incorporating features like 10-foot ceiling heights, recessed LED lighting, showers with digital controls, and bedroom lighting customized to residents' sleep schedules. As of late last year, One Chicago's available units included 1,200-square-foot units, 11,000-square-foot duplexes and everything in between.
A collection of 735 rental units—comprising the 49-storey tower and the lower levels of the 76-storey tower—make up the remaining residential program.

With much of the project's parking component to be held in the podium, excavation for the development was swift. As crews work through the winter, recent images depict the construction site as an active forest of rebar and swinging cranes, as above-grade progress becomes more visible by the day.
