It's best if all of my posts are read in that voice.

Hey, something different! If the materials are quality, consider me a fan. It’s sort of a budget Marina City from Chicago.

    Everyone prefers a bigger D.

    General Construction Updates

A few photos of the project that never ends... And because I was there already, one shot of Eau Claire. I'm still a bit bitter sweet about this...it clearly never worked as a mall, but there's some neat 90s nostalgia for me at this place. Do we know when demolition begins? Would be nice to...

    Calgary | The Brooklyn | 37m | 10s | Ayrshire | EFG Architects

As a former resident of Brooklyn I'm not sure what exactly they are trying to reference. Also, as usual, they could edit out 1-2 materials on that facade (but not the brick!) and improve the outcome. But hey, it has potential, and the block it's going on is a wasteland, so I'll take it.

Show of hands, who had one of the Hart clan as a substitute gym teacher back in the day?

    Calgary | Uxborough Phase 1 | 45m | 14s | Western Securities | Gibbs Gage

Yeah the entrance feels oddly disjointed to the rest...but overall I much prefer the brick building with the little yellow accents over the generic whatever tower.

Oof. Yeah that's pretty bad. In all these picks, the black siding has definitely been the weak link.

Dude it's Calgary, there's gotta be some random rectangle or something in every project.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It still seems like the most impactful lever that could be pulled in the short term would be cutting back on Canadian immigration. It's something we have direct control over and would act as a relief valve to let Canadians and the development sector catches up.

    Calgary | The Sentinel | 24m | 6s | Arlington Street | Jackson McCormick

I’m with everyone on the design of this being pretty lame, but I don’t have a problem with the scale. The height/density seems fine to me. Personally I don’t like having towers or taller buildings directly on high streets…they are more imposing and block more light, which works against having a...

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

A dome would probably be too expensive, but I think even having a roof overhang, and a fully encircled stadium to mitigate the wind-tunnel effect, would be a huge help. To help mitigate the cold psychologically, I think it perhaps also wouldn't hurt to take a few cues from the mountain...

$500M for an MLS franchise? Damn! Are they doing that well financially?

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I'm all for a smaller stadium like your Villarreal example. With it's failing demographics I don't really see the CFL getting back to ever needing 40-50K stadiums again any time soon, and a smaller stadium would just have more atmosphere for them and for the Cavalry if they ever want to be...

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

It definitely seems like you'd need something that can host a lot of things...Stamps, Cavalry, concerts/festivals, University/Community sports, perhaps track and field, etc....It would probably need to be a compromised jack-of-all-trades type building, but I don't think any one entity can really...

    Calgary | Munro | 26m | 7s | Calgary Co-op | NORR

While I welcome pretty much any new development and aesthetic improvements along it, like McLeod Trail, I just don't see 16th Ave ever being a particularly pleasant place to walk down. No matter what lines the street, at the end of the day it will always be a loud and busy arterial road. The...

Definitely no threat of anything being built on that parking lot for the next few decades.

Yeah I was attempting a joke.... I have no idea what tv's/screens they have up there now as I haven't been in the PL seats in years. Not because I'm a fancy boy, but because my old eyes can't track the puck from that high anymore.

But then where will the motorcycle school setup their cones?

And yet it would still be an upgrade over watching highlights on a 90s big screen tv, like the poors in the Saddledome currently get.
