Tseung Kwan O is a new town in Hong Kong. It is located east of Kowloon, built on mostly reclaimed land from the water in Junk Bay. It is separated from the rest of HK by mountains and the sea.
Tseung Kwan O is a relatively new "new town" in Hong Kong. Development started in 1982, and the first residents moved into the town in 1988. Today, just 17 years later, the population is about 340 000. Development has sped up with the opening of the Tseung Kwan O MTR subway line in 2002. The planned population for Tseung Kwan O is 480 000.
