Emirati developer DAMAC Properties has announced a new $2 billion complex set to rise at the corner of Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Meydan Street in Dubai. Marketed as the first project to materialize on the banks of the under-construction Dubai Water Canal — a three-kilometre-long artificial river connecting Business Bay and the Dubai Creek to the Persian Gulf — Aykon City will include six mixed-use skyscrapers, offering a total area of 370,000 square metres.

Ranging from 30 to 80 storeys in height, the towers are designed to recall the ever-changing sand dunes of the nearby desert as well as the quartz crystals that compose them. The tallest edifice will soar 285 metres above ground and be home to the luxurious Aykon Hotel and Residences, with suites and serviced apartments spreading up to 400 square-metres in size. A second tower dedicated to serviced apartments and branded DAMAC Maison Hotel Apartments will stand at 63 storeys above the adjacent Safa Park. In addition, there will be a third 60-floor apartment tower as well as two 30-storey condominium buildings boasting a mix of studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units — each with a car lift — will complete the residential component of the project. The remaining 65-storey structure will house premium office space.

Aykon City intends to become a major entertainment destination. At the ground-level Aykon Plaza, developers will provide both residents and visitors with world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment. It will include a beach club, a running track, a yoga lawn, a Tai-chi centre, a spa, and a children’s play area. Finally, the attraction known as Aykon Dare, situated on the upper levels of the 295-metre tower, will enable the most courageous to walk along the outside edge of the building's roof.
