Prolific Calgary firm Gibbs Gage Architects has left their physical footprint in the burgeoning Beltline neighbourhood just south of the downtown core, with projects like Portfolio adding height and density to the expanding skyline. Though it's not quite as tall or large, Royal View East marks another entry into the growing architectural résumé of Gibbs Gage, as the 22-storey residential building by developer Bentall Kennedy readies for occupancy.

More specifically, the highrise rental apartment project is situated within the West Connaught Community of the Beltline. The area's abundance of convenient services and amenities has earned it a favourable reputation among millennials looking for an urban and livable environment.

Located adjacent to the existing Royal View apartment block, the contemporary tower includes live-work suites, a pedestrian-scaled building frontage, a publicly accessible plaza, green roofs, and rainwater harvesting for irrigation.

The facade institutes a variety of cladding materials, including vertical strips of red brick, dark green window wall, and charcoal spandrel. Some gaps in the elevation remain where the construction hoist is positioned, which will be removed in the near future. The project's cantilevered roof element is also largely complete, giving the development some more panache. Residents can expect to move into their open concept suites this year.
