In the five months since our last update, progress on Langham Developments Limited's twin residential towers Fox Towers has moved well past the podium level, with one tower all but complete and the other well on its way. At ground level, tenants have already begun to move into the podium, bringing a healthy mix of fine grain retail to this highly pedestrian stretch of Edmonton's lively 104th Street.

Designed by KENNEDY, the 33- and 28-storey towers rest upon a common five-storey brick-clad podium, which was designed to mesh into the the surrounding streetscape, much of which dates to the early 20th century. To house a mixture of retail and restaurants, the podium has also been designed to reflect the pedestrian nature of the neighbourhood, one which has received a near-perfect Walkscore of 98/100 — a rarity within car-dependent Edmonton.

While there remains much work to be done, recent photos from our Forum reveal a recently completed Fox One, with retail at ground level, next to Fox Two, which is approaching its final height. At ground level, the Fox Two portion of the podium awaits cladding, with some window installation underway.

To be completed by 2017, Fox Two will add 169 residential units to 104th St, with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites ranging from 654 to 2,400 square feet. Beyond the urban feel of the surrounding neighbourhood, residents will be placed within walking distance of the LRT, thus furthering the new development's metropolitan appeal.

Once complete, the Fox Towers will be a welcome addition to the Edmonton skyline, part of the city's ongoing urban transformation and downtown redevelopment.
