Now the tallest building in Canada outside of Toronto, Brookfield Place has rightfully received a lot of coverage. Our Forum contributors have documented the 56-storey building from nearly every angle, but the latest crop of photos from Surrealplaces shows the complex in a new, vertigo-inducing light.
A recent drone flight has captured the sleek glazing and curved parapet of the 247-metre skyscraper, which is a full 11 metres taller than Foster + Partner's The Bow located just a block away. This elevated vista — chronicled in both images and video — also portrays the crowded assemblage of machinery donning the roof, which is hidden when viewed from the ground by the milky-white multi-storey crown. Here, the skyscraper's essential mechanical equipment, including HVAC systems, sit beside the white-painted building maintenance unit.
The video reveals the progress taking place at street level as well, where a restaurant and public plaza will command the attention of road users. Designed by DIALOG and Arney Fender Katsalidis, the tower is still waiting for some glazing panels where gaps in the curtain wall were left following the dismantling of the tower crane.
Though the tower's current exterior state suggests imminent occupancy, crews are still hammering away on shaping the interior finishings and layout of the building. Tenants should begin moving into the space in 2017 and eventually, another complementary tower is anticipated on the adjacent lot. Though the second tower will be a comparatively stout 42 storeys, the two will work in harmony to elevate the skyline's graduated silhouette.
