In the 13 months since our last update, progress at the site of Fisher Brothers and The Witkoff Group's 111 Murray Street has been moving along nicely. What was then merely an excavation site has quickly transformed into an imposing structure, and the soon-to-be 58-storey, 157-unit condo tower has now reached its approximate halfway point. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, the first few panels of what will become the tower's signature smooth glass-wrapped exterior have been put in place, and the Tribeca and Lower Manhattan skyline will be forever transformed once the tower is complete.

Located deep in Lower Manhattan at the bottom of Tribeca, a neighbourhood known more for brownstones and factory loft conversions than highrises, 111 Murray represents the rapid rate of urban renewal and development now underway across much of Manhattan

Set to rise to a total height of 241 metres, the distinctive tower takes its inspiration from both the fashion industry and the famous glasswork of Venice and Murano, Italy. The tower's distinctive glass wrap, which envelopes the entire structure from top to bottom, will cap off with flair, as each of the two "sheets" terminate with a fanciful curved peak.

Viewed above in early December, a closer look at the glass curtain wall reveals the subtlety of the gentle curves that hug the similarly rounded-off floor plates, the combined effect of which gives the tower its signature style. Below, one last look at the tower as it will appear upon completion in 2017 serves to highlight the extent to which the new development works as a transitional piece, placed between the relatively low-rise Tribeca to the north, with the much denser higher Wall Street Financial District to the south.

Once complete, 111 Murray Street will be a welcome addition to the area, part of the ongoing transformation of Lower Manhattan. Well connected to transit and situated between the hustle and bustle of Wall Street and the relative calm of Tribeca, the well-appointed luxury condo will be an easy sell, as the location and promise of breathtaking city and river views will be more than enough to inspire buyers.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
