Pininfarina Architecture, an extension of the famous Italian car designing group, has been engaged by Higold to build a new headquarters for the high-tech company. Their collaboration was announced during the 26th edition of Ideas on Design, a highly respected design program being held in Foshan, China. Higold Headquarters, the first Pininfarina project in China, will rise in the city's Shunde District.

Pininfarina Architecture is the visionary behind all aspects of the development, from the glazed facade to the abundant landscaping elements. The complex is composed of two buildings with slanted elevations. The 20-storey tower will be used as office space, while its smaller sibling will become a guesthouse. The arrangement encapsulates a poetic concept, meant to illustrate a nurturing mother supporting her child during the first steps of life. A bridge between the two buildings evokes a helping hand.

A double-skin facade made of curtain wall glazing creates a shaded effect outwardly and a more transparent surface inside. Privacy is enhanced, while air ventilation reduces the heating and cooling demand year round. Another key component of the design is the focus on nature, represented by a flurry of curated landscaping that penetrates the building itself. Visitors are guided to the core areas of the building via external green boundaries, and inside, suspended gardens and water features connect the lobbies and the cantilevered linking element, which hosts an outdoor green showroom on the roof.

"Pininfarina and Higold have been creating an elegant, outstanding project able to improve everyday life," said Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Group. "The ground breaking is planned for 2018 and we are very excited to see the final result of our partnership."
