Do you really think he believed that the salaries of 22 councillors and their staff would cover the costs of 100 police? When public documents show that lots of police officers make the same overall salaries as one councillor, and those same public documents show that most councillors' staff make less than that?

Or that it was simply a great sound bite for a lot of disaffected people who never have or take the time to check on a fact like that, and he knew that he could say anything as long as he kept talking?

Stuff like that is how I started coming here...

Deco can't really do any of those things. They print sticky labels like you find on retail product bottles like shampoo or ketchup. They'd give a great deal on sticker rolls or magnets.

Wouldn't have printers big enough for signs, or the machine for assembling buttons, or the right inks for cheap paper leaflets.

If any erstwhile Toronto politician is synonymous with the election-sign-manufacturing racket, it's Howard Moscoe. (And, being Moscoe, he's open and honest about it--hey, it's all a game, anyway)

If you don't like someone just tell them to shut up and call them a loser lol.

Which of course is exactly how this group of individuals would behave online and in person under the guise of "the real". No surprise how the Fos and Trump resonate with that crowd - in fact, the over-the-top rhetoric of those two felt a little artificial - no doubt because of the need to whip that crowd into a feeding frenzy.

Doesn't Deco do stuff like those Flag Day signs?

Mind you, it's part and parcel of the Fords' shtick that they're unwilling to work with "commies," which is to say anyone who's not a social Neanderthal. That's what their fanboys love about them, whether due to being reactionaries themselves, or just angry & pissed off at business as usual. See Donald Trump for a more recent example. Then again - and as we've been discussing here lately - it's not like the Fords wouldn't pivot on a dime if they saw any profit in doing so. It's not like they have any true political principles. Really, their only genuine ideology is self-promotion. Again, just like Trump.

Yep. Like all populist pandering, it's just about whatever sounds good at a particular moment. The Fords talk a lot about sticking up for 'the little guy' and representing 'the common folk', but economically they haven't been those things for a generation or so. Their whole shtick involves having a blind spot about their own privilege and counting on their supporters to have a blind spot too, hence DoFo going on swanky European vacations

while railing against 'wine-sipping elitists'. There is such a thing as raging so hard against perceived elitism and pretentiousness that the pendulum swings back the other way towards affectation ...

That's why Robbie is a champion of fiscal Conservative management... ONE BILLION DOLLARS! :)

Didn't he float the idea of halving the number of councillors and wards before being elected to his first term, only to never mention it again? I don't recall him saying anything at all about how the new wards would be defined, how much it would cost to reorganize everything, hold new elections, etc.

Yep, the 22 seat thing was, and still is, a thing. Reduce government, reduce cost, reduce voice, reduce democracy.

The target of 22 wards are in line with the 22 federal wards (with same lines) which is an option to municipalities evidently.

Details! Robbie doesn't worry about the details. He just throws crap out and hopes it sticks.
