Amendments may be required for both for "optimization" along their entirety (less stops, more grade separation). Still no leaks or indications what this will look like.

Would like to have some amendments made to Eglington West though. Because of the traffic congestion in the Martin Grove & Eglinton West intersection, it should be better that the light rail right-of-way go below grade at that intersection, with a stop at the southwest corner. It could continue west of Martin Grove at grade on the south side to at least the East Mall, but preferably on the south side of Eglinton to Renforth, so that residents on the south side of Eglinton have better access. The north side of Eglinton is mostly the 401/427 intersection.

I doubt they'll end up on the south side. There is the bus ramp to the 427 and a private access to a cemetery between the 427 overpasses. That cemetery is mostly forgotten since it's from the 1800s. People access to there is rare but you can't have the tracks blocking the entrance. The bus ramp get's regular use but I think bus drivers are capable to check both sides.

Besides East Mall, there is no other stop along Eglinton that will benefit for the south side if Rangoon Stop doesn't get built. I don't expect much people would board from East Mall given that it's in the middle of no where. Rangoon is probably the better one to build. Anyone south of East Mall is probable better off taking the 111 East Mall to Martin Grove/Eglinton and boarding the LRT there. It is about 8-10 minute walk from the closest residential street to the East Mall stop. The small commercial complex there doesn't generate a lot of riders either. I wonder if Metrolinx would eliminate both stops and build the LRT on the north side.

1. Councillor Mihevic has moved a motion to expedite Crosstown West and East to be complete by 2021.
2. TTC Chair and Councillor Carroll has moved a motion to connect the ECLRT to FWLRT via Pearson Airport.

What is defined as "Crosstown East"? Is that UTSC to Kennedy (aka the Scarborough-Malvern LRT), or UTSC to Don Mills?

#1 how is it possible for the east and west to be completed at the same time as the middle portion yet Metrolinx did not insist on contractor starting station construction in the West end when the tunnelling got to at least Eglinton west

It takes a lot of time to design complex underground stations. Construction has begun on the only one that has actually advanced well beyond 30% design (Keele).

Interestingly, working backwards here, completion in 2021 with approximately 3 years of construction puts it up for tender and funding in: 2018. That will certainly be an interesting year, with so many projects starting up (RER, Hurontario LRT, Hamilton LRT, Confederation Line Phase II, and probably others) and a Provincial election to boot.

There shouldn't be any stops in-between. That existing stop in-between opposite Rangoon walkway is hardly ever used. Depending on how the stations are designed i.e. with secondary exits and lengthy platforms, it'd be hard to argue keeping any of the mid-block stops (Mulham, Russell/Eden Valley, Wincott or Lloyd Manor). Cut them all to save time and million$.

The distance from Martin Grove to Renforth is quite far. Without a 32 bus supplementing the LRT, it would be impossible for seniors to get to a stop.

I wonder if they can operate the LRT with stop requests for these low demand stations. It doesn't make sense for the current Crosstown but Crosstown West can certainly make use of stop requests. The stops don't have to be full fledged. This just need a concrete platform and and regular bus shelter.

Just because they made a mistake once doesn't mean history needs to repeat itself. Aga Khan, Hakimi Lebovic and Ionview are completely superflurous stops and should have been given the ax and rightfully so. Eglinton West west of Jane doesn't even have the density of Eglinton East through western Scarborough to justify having stops every 500 metres.

120 metre platforms/station boxes with exits at either ends strategically positioned to minimize walking distances between intersections could more than suffice for most of this area. A Scarlett Rd station for instance would have a western exit adjacent the pedestrian overpass @4000 Eglinton. Royal York exits to Russell. Islington to Wincott and Martin Grove to Widdicombe Hill.

Millions of dollars saved from not building additional platforms, commute times slashed. I doubt if even 100 people combined daily use the mid-block stops.

I couldnt agree more, honestly stations at Llyod Manor and Wincott (just from personal experience passing by the area regularly) would be an outright waste of money. Metrolinx would literally be spending $100-$200 million on 500 daily riders at most. Seniors barely even use the 32 as it is right now, so I dont think an LRT would really change that at all.

I cant speak for the other proposed mid-block stops, but if they're anything like Wincott and Lloyd Manor then they would be wasting even more money.

Once complete this thing must take the record for longest LRT in Canada.
