Toronto's Integrity Commissioner says former councillor Doug Ford violated city council's code of conduct by improperly using his influence and accepting a gift from a business.

In a report released Thursday, Integrity Commissioner Valerie Jepson says her investigation into a three 2014 complaints about Ford's conduct found he violated the code which polices councillor's behaviour. Jepson says Ford "attempted to secure preferential treatment" at City Hall for a client of his family firm Deco Labels. She also says he contravened the code of conduct by accepting a gift of tennis tournament tickets from one of the firms.

But because Ford is no longer a member of council, Jepson recommends no penalty. Instead, she asks that city council adopt her findings at its meeting next week.

Reached by the Toronto Sun Thursday morning, Ford slammed the Integrity Commissioner and her findings.

"This is a joke," he said. "It's another political attack."

Same expected response from Doug.

The most important part of course is left to the last of the article, a common theme for The Sun.
Ethics system needs fixing

Toronto’s ethics system is broken, according to a founder of Democracy Watch.

Here’s what Duff Conacher — one of three complainants who reported councillor Doug Ford’s dealings with two Deco Labels clients to the city’s integrity commissioner — had to say about the commissioner’s findings and the city’s ethics system:

•“What Doug Ford did is one of the worst things you can do as a politician and he should be facing a significant fine. At least one year’s salary as a penalty, but unfortunately you can’t because the Toronto ethics enforcement system is very flawed.”

•Conacher said council should immediately adopt a “sliding scale” of penalties for councillors who violate the act and give the integrity commissioner the power to impose the sanctions.

•“Right now councillors decide the penalty that another councillor will suffer for violating the code. It’s a bad idea to have politicians judging other politicians because they’re in a conflict of interest when they do that.”

Another Ford/Trump similarity: that "ONE THOUSAND JOBS SAVED" is actually only 700 according to Carrier union head.
The numbers I heard was 750 UNION jobs, the rest, ~250 or so were to stay where they were to begin with and were just included for show; the number is not as important but if you were not union then you lost out.

On a side note, Carrier is a government contractor, a non- government contractor in the area just out sourced ~1800 jobs to Mexico.

Another Ford/Trump similarity: that "ONE THOUSAND JOBS SAVED" is actually only 700 according to Carrier union head.

Which will soon morph into "I saved billions of jobs", in time for his first State of the Union speech. Which by the way, is going to be tremendous. Believe me!
