They don't seem interested in a tunnel anymore. Since December 2018 they've talked about relocating the station to the north side of Steeles, just like the HMLRT EA had shown it. So it'll be interesting to see what publicly comes out next from that recent reference to design work that was passed by Brampton Council recently.

The tunnel like other things were cut from the plan due to cost during the bidding process, as cost were exceeding the budget cost. If Brampton wanted to maintain the tunnels, they would had to foot the cost to do so.

Extending the tracks to the north side should cost about $100,000, with the cost of the station remain the same, since it only been relocated from the south to the north. Who pay for this extra cost is unknown at this time, but Brampton could be on the hook, but more likely the contractor.

What happen going north of the station is still in Brampton control, but it should be surface up to the creek as per the original EA. From there to GO is still the unknown at this time. If it is to be tunnel, Brampton on the hook for about 90% of the cost. If the line use 2 streets, Brampton will be on the hook for most of the cost of one street. If it goes back to the original plan, Brampton could be on the hook for the increase cost to build the line.

As to when the extension could happen is up to Ford, but could happen after the main section is build or during the construction of it, but open up after the main section does. Then it could be way down the road.

The pedestrian tunnels under Steeles may have been cut from the plan behind the scenes, but it was never publicly confirmed it was even part of the "plan" between when Brampton Council said no to LRT on Main St in October 2015, and when the Hurontario cuts by the Ford government happened in 2019 (or 2018?). There was only one staff report between those years indicating it was being requested.

I have a couple more images from 2018 that show the plans for it, the new terminal is supposed to be on the site of the Playdium parking lot, with the Transitway looping around it, most likely underground. The transit terminal project and the HuLRT are separate in scope and at completely different stages, which is why we see a crappy looking City Centre station at the moment. I have no doubt that we will see the integration of the stop into a much more comprehensive transit terminal building.

Here’s a small update on this from the 2020-2021 Metrolinx Business Plan. An Initial Business Case will be completed.

Those trees in the centre of the road starting at Burnhamthrope going north are now wood chips. They are all gone and didn't see any large hole that would be left if they were being transplant else where as I drove by the area today. No idea about the tree at Sq One Dr that could be transplanted,as they were digging that area up when I drove by.

The flower beds up by Eglinton have been removed and some asphalt top coat need.

Between Bristol and Matheson, was dug up and needing grading as well asphalt. Other than the area where the trees were, all the median has been remove where it can south of the 401. All of it was done north of the 401 over a month ago.

Until temporary construction traffic lights are install, can't remove the small sections of median still there.

Hurontario at the Queensway is done to a single lane, as the gas company has a hole in lane 2 and the curb lane close even for right hand turn.
