The Municipal Historic Resource designation for the showroom (southerly facade as well portions of the east and west) was approved by City Council, so the developer will be rehabilitating that portion and incorporating it into the development thankfully.

Planner Description: This application proposes to rezone this subject site from a Direct Development Control Provision (DC1.17377) to the Urban Warehouse Zone (UW) to allow for a mix of uses in a human-scaled built form that builds on the existing land use pattern and respects the architectural characteristics and functions of the area. This application also proposes to amend the UW Zone to remove a regulation that limits density to 500 dwellings/hectare.

It would also be nice to see some spectacular architecture in the residential realm, especially for downtown.
What about just at least SOME thought lol. Would already be an improvement. I didn’t grab a photo because I just saw it from the uber on my way out of town, but here is a gorgeous new one in Toronto. These mid rises make for such a nicer neighbourhood feel. The super tall ones are impressive to see but just don’t make sense in so many ways. The google street view is a bit old so it’s still under construction, but finished, wow, it looks good.

This is what happens when you don't complain en masse about crapmeisters building out your City. So many people on this site attack me for pointing out the crap that is getting built in Edmonton and the excuses that underscore that build-out. "But it is going to add density -- we need density downtown"... "at least it is getting rid of surface parking lots".... "the front facade looks passable but the rest of the building is fugly" It kind of reminds me of Trumpism -- I am going to take away your health system... but I will replace it with something much better. Good God people, wake up! What are you going to complain about when your cardboard City is finished? You should hold every new project accountable to very high standards, especially on a site that is named Skyrise -- dealing specifically with development and architecture.
